Description

Under general supervision, this class performs skilled work at the journey-level, in the installation, repair and maintenance of complex, computer-controlled traffic signal systems; and performs other work as required.

Representative Duties
-
The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of the position’s essential duties. They are descriptive, not limiting. Essential Duties: Inspects traffic control intersections under construction or repair; Replaces damaged traffic standards and hardware; Evaluates traffic patterns; Inspects traffic vehicle detector loops; Makes daily inspections of traffic control intersections; Tests new cabinets and controllers and all associated auxiliary equipment; Tests pedestrian timing; Replaces traffic lamps; Checks traffic heads for proper alignment; Operates light and heavy equipment; Replaces wiring and conduit; Replaces cabinets and controllers.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Applications will be accepted only from those applicants who clearly demonstrate on the COMPLETED application & supplemental questionnaire that they meet the below requirements:
- Graduation from high school or completion of a G.E.D.; AND
- Five (5) years of journey-level experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of computerized traffic signal systems; OR
- Five (5) years’ experience as an Electrical Technician I/II; OR
- An equivalent combination of training, certification, and experience, which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties.
- Must be able to pass color vision test.
- Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license is required
HIGHLY DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of an International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level II certificate in signal maintenance and operations is desirable

An appraisal will be made of the applicant’s experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.
