You can make your room reservations online. The conference rate is $149 per night, plus taxes/fees.

Is there a charge for parking?
The negotiated hotel rate includes discounted parking at $10 per day for self-parking (reg. $29), or $26 daily for on-site valet.

What is the dress code?
Appropriate attire for the conference is business casual, so dress comfortably - you can leave your suits at home and unwind in this relaxing environment.

Is there free internet access?
Wireless internet access will be provided in the lobby, general resort areas, and in the sleeping rooms. NOTE: Free in-room internet access is part of the negotiated hotel rate. You should not be charged for in-room internet services.

Can I bring guests?
MMASC welcomes your family and friends to a stay with you and enjoy Santa Barbara's many attractions. Anyone wishing to participate in the Conference meals, receptions, or sessions must be registered as a Conference attendee.

Can I register and pay with a credit card?
MMASC accepts VISA and MasterCard. Information must include the name as it appears on the card, the expiration date, and the three digit security code on the back of the card.

Can I register and pay with a check?
Yes, make checks payable to MMASC.

Is there a conference Twitter hashtag?

When is the Annual Business Meeting?
For 2013, this meeting is 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 23rd, 2013. Come and voice your ideas on the present and future of MMASC. The meeting agenda will be published in advance.

I see "Dinner on your Own" in the conference agenda, where should I go?
There are a multitude of restaurants in Santa Barbara. If you heading out with a colleague or new MMASC connection, you should find no lack of good food and atmosphere. Additional information on dining options will be available at the Registration table.

Where can I download copies of the speakers' presentation materials?
In an effort to continue to provide MMASC members with educational resources and references, some speakers have agreed to make their presentation materials available for download. You can locate these presentations under the name of the individual speakers on the Conference Speakers page.

Credentialed Government Leader (CGL) Program

Why is being a Credentialed Government Leader valuable to my professional career?
It sets you apart from the competition and illustrates your dedication to the profession by keeping yourself fresh and current, beyond receiving additional educational degrees.

Who is eligible to participate?
The program is designed for candidates currently in mid-management positions or higher who have at least three (3) years experience in a government organization.

What is the cost to participate?
CGL program is $75 to enroll/complete and $25 to renew (every two years). The assessment is included in the enrollment cost. Additional costs for coursework may be applicable depending on the sponsoring organization and venue.

How do I apply for the CGL program?
Just complete the online CGL application form, and upon approval, pay the $75 enrollment fee.

Once my application has been accepted and I’ve paid for the program, how do I select a Mentor?
Your application will be administered by the executive recruitment firm of Peckham & McKenney. You will be provided a list of approved and trained Mentors from which to select an individual that best fits your needs. You and your Mentor may execute a Mentor/Mentee Agreement to ensure an effective relationship through direct and frequent communication and updates with your Mentor as you progress through the program. In meeting with your Mentor, you will review your background and experience in order to develop a customized program that will address core skill areas (5) as well as additional electives (3) upon which to focus. Your Mentor will also provide advice and counsel relating to appropriate courses.

What is the program schedule?
The CGL program is completed at a pace determined by the applicant and their mentor. The applicant will have two years to complete the certification requirements.

How do I get a course approved for CGL credit?
Participants can request pre-approval of a proposed course to ensure CGL credit by using the CGL Proposal Form. The course will then be reviewed by the CGL Committee for acceptance.

If I'm an MMASC member but choose to attend a CGL course hosted by MMANC (or vice versa), can I still get credit?
Yes! The Credentialed Government Leader (CGL) Program is statewide and recognized by both MMASC and MMANC. The only requirement for credit is for the course to be a CGL-approved course. If you would like to submit a course for consideration, please use the
CGL Proposal Form.

Can I receive credit for taking qualified courses that I took prior to enrolling in the CGL program?
Yes! CGL applicants can request credit for up to two courses taken prior to CGL enrollment, if (1) the course is a CGL-approved course deemed appropriate for the applicant by their mentor; and (2) the course was taken within the 12 months immediately prior to CGL enrollment.

I’ve now completed ALL of my five core skill area courses as well as my three electives. Now what?
All applicants will be required to submit the following upon completion of the program requirements:
1. The CGL Program Completion Form.
2. A short write-up (250 words) on each course taken, summarizing how it applies to your current work or career goals.
3. A culminating report (500-750 words) on what you learned during the CGL process and how you plan to apply the principles learned to your career.

May I use online training to satisfy CGL requirements?
Online training can be used for fulfilling up to two (2) electives in the CGL program, but cannot be solely used to satisfy any of the five (5) core skill areas. Online courses need to be a minimum of three (3) hours in length and are subject to approval of the CGL oversight committee.

What are the signature MMASC annual events?
MMASC hosts three (3) signature organization-wide events annually. This include the Winter Forum, Annual Conference, and Fall Forum.

How many regional events are there?
Each year, the eight (8) MMASC regions are expected to host a minimum of four (4) regional events each.
3.
Can I send a colleague to an event in my place?
Yes, substitutions are acceptable but an an additional fee will be charged for attendees with a higher registration category.

No, if you don't already have a foursome, you can sign up as an individual and you will be grouped by the golf tournament committee.

Am I eligible for membership in MMASC?
Membership in MMASC is reserved for the following individuals:
Full Members: anyone employed in a position assisting in the management of governmental agencies in Southern California, except Chief Administrative Officer. Assistants who work in public agencies other than municipalities are encouraged to join MMASC. This includes persons in County, State, and Federal governments; colleges and universities; regional governments; legislative assistant positions; special districts, and other governmental agencies.
Student Members: full-time students for whom school is their primary activity. Full-time employees of local governments (or other organizations) are not eligible for student membership.
Business Members: individuals who are interested in promoting the purposes of MMASC and ineligible for full membership. MMASC Business Members include our corporate partners, consultants, and other non-local government professionals.
Honorary Members: individuals who are current, former, or retired Chief Administrative Officers or City Managers of any municipality in one of the eight (8) MMASC Southern California regions.

Do I qualify for student membership?
To join MMASC as a student member, you must be a full-time student and school must be your primary activity. Full-time employees of local governments (or other organizations) are not eligible for student membership.
4.
Is my membership transferable?
As a professional association, MMASC membership belongs to you as an individual, not your employing organization. Membership is not transferable among individuals.
