ICMA’s Life, Well Run Campaign Raises Local Government Manager Awareness

Posted on August 31, 2012 at 3:31 PM by Liz Pharis

Life, Well Run is an ICMA initiative to raise awareness of and appreciation for the value professional managers bring to building effective local government and great communities. The campaign began in spring 2012 in the San Antonio area and Chicago region. In 2013, it will expand to other communities throughout the United States. Professional managers oversee the day-to-day operations of more than 59 percent of cities and towns with a population of 2,500 and over, and 27 percent of counties across America. They help make good communities great; giving us a place we’re proud to call home. Whether it is a decision between bike lanes or parking lanes, green space or garage space, a courthouse or a convention center, professional local government managers are the people behind these decisions, turning policy into action and visionary ideas into tangible results. But most people are unaware of the role of local government, how it’s organized, and how they can work with it to build better communities. The Life, Well Run campaign hopes to teach people about how professional managers help build good government that is ethical and transparent. To learn more, visit www.lifewellrun.org.
