9:15 AM    Vision, Action, Success: Our Path to City Management

In June 2022, the neighboring cities of Westminster and Fountain Valley hired new City Managers. In each city, the manager is making history by becoming the first woman of Vietnamese descent to serve in the role. Hear from Maggie Le, City Manager of Fountain Valley, and Christine Cordon, City Manager of Westminster, as they share their stories on their rise to the "big seat" of their respective Orange County cities.

As practicing or aspiring government professionals, staff report writing is in your future.  In this session, Tamara Letourneau, City Manager of Laguna Niguel and author of "Mastering the Art: A Step-by-Step Guide to Writing a Quality Staff Report" will provide attendees tips and strategies on effective communication in the workplace and the art of writing a quality staff report. Attendees will even have the opportunity to get a signed copy of the book!

1:30 PM    Municipal Finance Post COVID-19: A Look At How The Pandemic Has Changed Us

The past 2+ years have been anything but fiscally predictable, forcing organizations to think outside of the box when it comes to fiscal sustainability. In this session, attendees will hear from Bobby Young, Principal at HdL, on how the pandemic has affected local government and how it will change the way fiscal preparation is done.

3:15 PM    MMASC Executive Board Nominations & Business Meeting

Interested in serving as a member of the MMASC Board of Directors? The Bylaws & Elections Committee opened nominations on Thursday, July 14, 2022. Time has been set aside for open nominations at this session. Following the session, nominations will be closed. A brief business presentation will follow.

3:30 PM    Reflecting on the Past, Building the Future: MMASC Past Presidents Panel

MMASC is one of the oldest and the largest associations of its kind. Since establishment almost 70 years ago, the association has grown to over 800 members, representing local governments that serve an estimated 22 million residents in Southern California. In this session, hear from the former leaders of the organization as they reflect on their time at the helm, provide meaningful advice on how to prepare for career progression and development, and discuss the future of MMASC.

Panelist: Chris Freeland (2006-07), Laura A. Biery (2008-09), Carl Alameda (2009-10), Alma Janabajab (2015-16).
